Past Meeting – May 2025
Recap
Nearly 100 people attended the Thriving Weld Quarterly Meeting on May 7, 2025. Nancy Gedeon, estimates demographer from the State Demography Office, presented If/Then: Population Trends and Transitions in Weld County. Her presentation covered how the population is changed by births, deaths, and migration, but is also affected by the economy, jobs, and commuting. She also discussed how the age of the population impacts the labor force, housing, and services required for residents.
Key takeaways from the presentation include:
- Weld County’s births are projected to continue being higher than the yearly deaths through 2050 while Larimer County’s and Colorado’s yearly deaths are projected to surpass or match the number of yearly births by 2050.
- Weld County’s net migration by age was quite different from Larimer County’s in that Weld experienced higher migration for those aged less than 15 and 30-39 while Larimer experienced higher migration for those aged 20-24 and actually experienced a negative net migration from those 30-34 (2010-2020 data).
- From 2010-2020 95% of population and job growth in Colorado happened in the Front Range while 87% of population growth from 2020-2023 in Colorado happened in the Front Range.
After Nancy’s presentation Shaun May, Division Director of Public Health Services within the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment gave an overview of the Department’s new Public Health Mobile Unit. This unit offers free and low-cost services such as immunizations, health screenings, education, and referrals to support healthier communities in Weld County. We’re bringing care closer. Meeting attendees then had the opportunity to take a tour of the Public Health Mobile Unit!
